CONTACT US

Lymphatic Drainage is a specialised, gentle massage technique designed to encourage the natural drainage of the lymph, which is a crucial part of your body’s immune system. Think of the lymphatic system as your body’s waste disposal and defence network. It helps to carry away waste products, toxins, and excess fluid.

Sometimes, this system can become a bit sluggish, leading to fluid build-up, swelling, and a general feeling of being a bit under the weather. Lymphatic Drainage uses light, rhythmic movements to help stimulate the flow of lymph, encouraging it to move more efficiently through the body. It’s a very different approach to a regular massage – it’s much lighter and focuses on the superficial lymphatic vessels just beneath the skin.

The Benefits

You might be surprised at the range of benefits this gentle treatment can offer:

Reduces Swelling and Fluid Retention: Ideal for those experiencing puffy ankles, heavy legs, or general fluid build-up.

Supports the Immune System: By encouraging lymph flow, it helps your body to fight off infections and stay healthier.

Helps Detoxification: Helps to remove waste products and toxins from the tissues.

Can Help with Post-Surgical Recovery: Particularly useful for reducing swelling and bruising after certain operations (always with your surgeon’s approval, of course).

May Improve Skin Health: Can contribute to a clearer and brighter complexion by reducing fluid retention in the face.

Promotes Relaxation: The gentle, rhythmic movements can be very soothing and help to reduce stress.

Can Ease Symptoms of Lymphedema: A condition involving chronic swelling, often in the arms or legs (always as part of a comprehensive management plan).

May Help with Sinus Congestion: Gentle facial lymphatic drainage can sometimes ease blocked sinuses.

Lymphatic Drainage can be a helpful treatment for a variety of folks, including those who are:

  • Experiencing swelling or fluid retention.
  • Recovering from surgery or injury.
  • Feeling generally sluggish or run-down.
  • Looking to support their immune system.
  • Suffering from mild lymphedema.
  • Experiencing heavy or tired limbs.
  • Prone to sinus congestion.

It’s always best to have a chat with me so we can discuss your individual needs and see if Lymphatic Drainage is the right treatment for you.

FAQs

Is Lymphatic Drainage the same as a regular massage?

Not at all. While both involve touch, Lymphatic Drainage uses very light, specific, rhythmic movements to target the superficial lymphatic system. It’s much gentler than a typical deep tissue or Swedish massage.

Does it hurt?

Absolutely not! Lymphatic Drainage is a very gentle and relaxing treatment. You might feel a slight sensation of movement, but it shouldn’t be uncomfortable at all.

Is it safe?

Generally, yes, Lymphatic Drainage is a safe treatment when performed by a trained and qualified practitioner like myself. However, there are certain conditions where it might not be suitable, so it’s important to discuss your health history with me.

Are there any side effects?

Some people might experience a slight increase in urination after a session as the body eliminates excess fluid. Occasionally, you might feel a bit tired afterwards, similar to how you might feel after any relaxing treatment. These effects are usually mild and short-lived.

What should I do after a dry needling session?

It’s generally recommended to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous activity for a few hours, and gently move the treated area to help alleviate any post-treatment soreness.
